A) What we do:
WE HELP WOMEN WHO ARE SUFFERING OR HAVE SUFFERED GENDER VIOLENCE in their family or couple relationship.
WE DEVELOP a model of "INTEGRATED CARE“ consisting in a specialized long lasting follow up to therapeutic support which contributes to the eradication of violence for those abused women and their children.
“...The exchange of love for contempt ... turned me into a puzzle. I was cracking up falling into pieces. At first the puzzle is him. You try to understand him but there are pieces that do not fit. Trying to put his pieces somewhere I was losing my own, leaving holes in my integrity.(...) You do not know what to do. Life goes on around while you are still falling into pieces "
WE HELP TO IMPROVE women’s bio- psycho- social Health through two procedures:
- RECOVERY FROM VIOLENCE SUFFERED
- IMPROVING THEIR OWN ABILITIES
The work done with women to help them to develop their own abilities in their defence and protect themselves and their children. It improves their motherhood abilities, as well as the relationship with their children, frequently damaged by the violence suffered
"(...) Guided by the friendly hand of the anonymous voice on a phone, you seem to be understood on the line. You step across the threshold without knowing where it will take you. You're at the door of Tamaia .(...)"
WE PREVENT the GENERATIONAL TRANSMISSION of the violence. This fact is a frequent reality in the family environment of women who have lived through gender violence and in that way we try to stop the violence chain.
"While you are gradually opening the bag with suspicion one day the old photos appear inside and you share them. Another day you interchange private impressions drowning feelings without fear of rejection and little by little you recover the person you left behind. The pieces of the puzzle, like little petals of a leafless flower, return to their place."
B) How we do it:
- Specialized help-line. This is the first contact with the therapeutic care and recovery process. It helps to be conscious of the risk and the damage suffered by the woman.
- Individual follow-up. Individual process where women can be understood and can recover from the damage suffered.
- Support with the motherhood process. Guidance on the relationship between mother and children.
- Psychosocial Support Groups. Opportunity to share and work with other women who are recovering from gender violence.
First contact with the Programme
The first step to ask for help has to be done by calling Tamaia’s phone number:
93 412 08 83
To obtain access to individual therapeutic attention, the woman herself must indicate her request and then she must attend her first reception interview. The first contact always has to be by telephone which will coordinate with the individual attention if required. Both the woman and the therapist will decide together if they start the recovery process establishing thus the corresponding follow-up interviews.
